Candlelight Concert Information

Dear families of Crestview Singers,

The St. James-Assiniboia Choral Candlelight Concert takes place at Pantages Playhouse Theatre (Corner of Market and Main) on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 7pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for our choristers to perform in a beautiful venue and on a prestigious stage. This event celebrates the sounds of the season and is sure to bring warmth to all. We will be singing two songs, Minka and Cold Snap.

Please ensure that your child wears black pants, a short sleeve t-shirt and brings some type of footwear, other than winter boots. This is a public performance and the choristers need to look professional. The Crestview Singers’ red t-shirts will be handed out before the performance.

Family and friends are welcome to attend this event. There are two transportation options to this event:

Option 1) Parents/Guardians will transport their child to and from Pantages Theatre. Please arrive between 6:15 and 6:30pm to avoid waiting out in the cold since the theatre does not open its doors to the public until 6:30 pm. A security person will let you and your child in.  Someone will be waiting in the Foyer area by the security door with a large sign direction you to the Green Room where the choir will be warming up. The theatre holds 1200 so don't worry about finding a seat.  Our choristers will sit upstairs in the Balcony, so you do not have to save seats for your child on the main floor. They will be well supervised in the balcony. In regards to parking, there are numerous out door parking lots in the area that require loonies. In addition, the Concert Hall has underground parking.

Option 2) A bus will depart from Crestview at 5;45pm and return at 8:15pm. Parents/Guardians will drop their child off at Crestview at 5:35 to take the school bus with Mrs. Moffatt, Mrs. Stephenson and volunteers. Parents may choose to attend the concert at Pantages Theatre but may not ride the bus unless acting as a volunteer (Criminal Record Check documents must be completed.).

Admission is free however there will be a Silver Collection for local charities during the performance. As well, there will be a silent auction in the lobby courtesy of our Divisional Choirs Executive.

Please fill out the form that was sent home as to whether your child can attend or not and how your child plans on getting to the performance. If your child plans to take the bus from Crestview, please fill out the bus permission form which was also sent home.

We are honored and very excited to have this opportunity to sing at the Candlelight Concert! Please make every effort to have your child be there. We have been working hard on our two songs and need every “team” member!

Forms need to be returned no later than Friday, November 18.

Musically Yours,

Ms. Goertzen

Cold Snap

Cold Snap

New frost is falling and dusting the trees.
Snowflakes are forming and lakes start to freeze.
Time to wave goodbye to fall.
Old Man Winter’s come to call
With  a cold___ snap,                   with a cold____ snap!

North winds are blowing and chilling the air.
Mufflers and mittens are what we all wear.
Better go ‘n’ buy supplies.
Now’s the time to winterize
For a cold____ snap,                     for a cold_____ snap!

Blue lips!  Red cheeks!  Stuffed nose!
Ch-ch-ch-ch-chatt’ring teeth!
Sore throat! Can’t speak! Shiver, shudder,
‘tis the season to be coughin’, to be sneezin’!

Part 2:                             A-choo                                A-choo
Part 1:     Cough cough                     Cough cough

            A-choo         A-choo         A-choo         cough cough
Cough           cough           cough           a-choo

           A-choo  A-choo                           A-choo  A-choo
Cough                              Cough  cough

Cough          cough                               cough    cough     A ----choo!
A-choo         A-choo            A-choo A-choo A-choo                         A----choo!

Deep snow is drifting and covers the hills,
icicles hanging beneath window sills.
Stay inside where it is warm,
safe from nature’s bitter storm
And the cold______ snap,
and the cold_________snap,
and the cold_______snap,

And the cold snap!  Brrrr!

Minka

Minka

Merry bells go ting-a-dingle;
toes and fingers freeze and tingle.
With our friends we love to mingle
while the snowflakes fall.
Boys and girls are out together
clad in coats of fur and leather,
Made to brave the coldest weather
when the sleigh-bells ring.

Sleigh bells ring, ting-a-ling.
Steeple bells ding, dong, ding,
Ting-a-ling,       ting-a-ling,
ding, dong, ding,      ding, dong, ding.

As we ride our song goes ringing;
through the air its echoes winging,
‘Til the wind seems full of singing;
so we speed a long.
Through the town and by the river
where the birches sigh and quiver

And the birds are silent never,
joining in our song.

Peace - Song Lyrics

Hello Crestview Singers,

Below you will find the words for our Remembrance Day Assembly song. If you want, click on the link to hear a children's choir sing this song on Youtube. Thanks for taking the time to practice this song at home. It will help us sound even better as a choir!

Click HERE to watch a children's choir perform this song on Youtube. Try singing along. They are singing in two-part so you will have to listen carefully for your part.

Keep on singing!

Ms. Goertzen

Peace

Pacem, pax hominibus, a word, a thought, a hope, a dream.
Amani, heiwa, paz, shalom, a light, a star, a shining beam.

The universal dream throughout the ages past,
The hope of generations yet to come;
To live in harmony, united hand in hand,
In peace, peace for all in ev’ry land.

Pacem, pax hominibus, a word, a pray’r from our birth.
Pace, friede, mir, salaam, peace to all the people of the earth.

Give us peace; live in peace.
Let the peace with in our hearts shine steady through each day.
Work for peace, perfect peace.
Let us work and never rest ‘til peace becomes the way.

Pacem, ….
Give us peace ….

Peace, peace, peace.
