Welcome Crestview Singers.

This volunteer choir is open to any grade 3-5 students who love to sing!
In September, we rehearse on Wednesdays from 12:15 - 12:50 in the Music Room.
Beginning October 9, we rehearse on Tuesdays from 12:15 - 12:50 in the Music Room.

Please note that students are asked to come to the Music Room before the bell rings for lunch recess. This just gives us time for attendance and warm ups.  The 30 minute recess goes by so quickly and we want to sing as much as possible!

Here are some of the events we will be singing at this year:

Crestview's Remembrance Day Assembly (Nov)
Music Celebration (Feb)
Winnipeg Music Festival (Feb or Mar)
Family of Schools Concert (May)

I will keep you posted with dates and information regarding choir events on this blog. Lyrics to our choir songs will be posted here as well as the occasional accompaniment to these songs.

I am looking forward to another wonderful year of singing together!!

Family of School Concert Songs

On May 7, Crestview Singers will be performing three pieces: Clever Chameleon, Kokoleoko and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is our mass choir piece and needs a little more practice. Please use the video to sing along to.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

This piece was originally performed by the Hawaiian singer and entertainer, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. It was quite popular on the radio when it was released in 1999.

Kokoleoko lyrics

Kokoleoko, sister, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, rooster crowing for day.
Kokoleoko, brother, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, time to be on our way.
Aby, mama, aby, aby, rooster crowing for day.

Ev’ry morning the rooster crow,
“Time to get up and start the day!”
Off to market we all must go.
Hurry now, we must not delay.

Singing…
Kokoleoko, sister, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, rooster crowing for day.
Kokoleoko, brother, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, time to be on our way.
Aby, mama, aby, aby, rooster crowing for day.

Part 1:
Time to get up and go, my brother.
Sun is shining up in the sky.
We are strong when we work together.
We are family, you and I.

Part 2:
Wake up, time to go, my brother.
Get up, sun is in the sky.
We’re strong when we work together.
We’re fam’ly, you and I.

Singing…
Kokoleoko, sister, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, rooster crowing for day.
Kokoleoko, brother, kokoleoko. Kokoleoko, time to be on our way.
Aby, mama, aby, aby, rooster crowing for day.

SAVE THE DATE!

Crestview Singers will be performing at the Family of Schools Concert on Monday, May 7 at 7:00pm at John Taylor Collegiate. Choir students will need to arrive at 6:30pm to warm up and receive their choir t-shirts.

We will be performing two pieces along with a mass piece with other schools.  This is a great opportunity for the students and families to see what is happening musically in our family of schools. In preparation for this concert, it is important that choir members be at all lunch recess rehearsals.

More details to follow at the end of April.
